Gazprom Neft turbine oils will be used on project 22220 nuclear-powered icebreakers

Gazprom Neft has developed turbine oils for the most powerful atomic icebreakers in the world, those of project 220020, the Arktika series. According to Gazpromneft-Lubricants, technologically advanced lubricants have been created in view of the higher operating standards on the Northern Sea Route (NSR).

The first batch of the product was supplied to Rosatomflot for the nuclear-powered icebreaker Ural which is due to enter service in Arctic waters in December 2022. The lubrication formula was developed to meet the requirements of the powerful turbines installed on the icebreakers. -nuclear-powered ice creams that operate under heavy load when passing through thick ice.

The specialty product is offered by Gazpromneft-Lubricants Ltd., a subsidiary of Gazprom Neft.

Project 22220 multi-purpose nuclear-powered icebreakers with RITM-200 reactors are the largest and most powerful icebreaker ships in the world. They can break ice up to three meters thick to escort tankers with a displacement of up to 100,000 tons. The double-draught concept of the vessels enables efficient operation at the mouths of Siberian rivers and on the routes of the Northern Sea Route. The development of the series is provided for by the program “Basic principles of the State policy of the Russian Federation in the Arctic until 2035”.
