Kai Havertz, Marcos Alonso, N’Golo Kante: injury news at Chelsea ahead of Zenit St. Petersburg

Chelsea suffered a scorching scorching Saturday afternoon at London Stadium against West Ham United in the Premier League after a 3-2 loss.

Goals from Jarrod Bowen, Manuel Lanzini and Arthur Masuaku wiped out goals from Thiago Silva and Mason Mount in the first half as the west London club ceded control atop the Premier League table, in the much to the chagrin of Blues fans who are now worried about what is ahead in a month that has been cruel to them in the past.

“I haven’t seen our performance go down against Man United or today. I think the performance is enough to even win the game, but what we are seeing clearly is that we are giving away easy goals and that ‘ is very unusual, ”Tuchel said after the loss.

“We make big mistakes that lead to big chances that lead to easy goals. We do it now in three game days against Man United, Watford and again today. If you do that at that kind of level, you can’t expect to have a result. “

In addition to the result itself, the injury crisis worsened for Thomas Tuchel and co. with three other players picking up shots to add to the four who were in attendance before the trip to east London.

With no time to linger for the European champions who are back in the Champions League as they travel to Russia to play against Zenit, up to seven players could now be missing, which is disastrous for the Premier League team now third.

That said, football.london takes you through all the injury news ahead of the clash at Gazprom Arena on Wednesday night.

Kai havertz

The major injury blow from the London Derby came in the form of a £ 75million man who suffered another injury to add to his recent hamstring injury he suffered in Win 3 -0 at Leicester a few weeks ago.

Havertz led the line for Chelsea against West Ham but was sent off on the stroke of half-time after a clash with Kurt Zouma.

Kai Havertz limps for Chelsea against West Ham

The injury suffered by the ex-Bayer Leverkusen should keep him sidelined at least for the game against Zenit, although the full impact remains to be confirmed.

What Tuchel said: “Kai is in great pain.”

Expected return date: N / A

Marcos Alonso

With Ben Chilwell out until the New Year at least, hearing that second-choice option Marcos Alonso suffered a minor injury in the second half of the game against the Irons is of great concern for Tuchel.

The Spaniard was pulled out in the 72nd minute for Christian Pulisic in a move that seemed rather tactical at the time but as Tuchel revealed at his press conference he had to make this substitution due to the pain he the 30-year-old was playing.

Perhaps Saul Niguez will have his chance as a left-winger now if Alonso’s back pain doesn’t subside before the midweek trip to Eastern Europe in the Champions League.

What Tuchel said: “Marcos has a pain in his back.”

Expected return date:N / A

Jorginho

The Italian has had a few tough games recently in the heart of the Chelsea midfielder.

His mistake which led to West Ham’s penalty for the first equalizer coupled with the howl he made in the game against Man United which led to Jadon Sancho’s goal led the former Napoli man to be subject extensive criticism from sections of the Chelsea fan base.

To add to his misery, the 29-year-old played the full 90 minutes of that game and has now worsened his hip problem despite losing the Watford game to recover.

N’Golo Kante sorely missed Chelsea after worrying trend that emerged after the Blues’ latest 3-2 Premier League loss to West Ham

What Tuchel said: Jorgi plays with hip pain for many days and it shows. “

Expected return date: N / A

N’Golo Kanté

Kante was really needed in this midfield battle against Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek to intercept plenty of West Ham attacks that bypassed Jorginho and Ruben Loftus-Cheek consistently.

Sadly, Kante is not looking any closer to come back from his knee injury he sustained in the 4-0 Champions League win over Juventus a few weeks ago.

What Tuchel said: “No actually I have no idea when he’ll be back and we’ve been missing not only N’Golo but Mateo Kovacic for the past five or six weeks.

“Jorgi is playing with hip pain for many days and you can see it. This is the situation.”

He added laconically when delving deeper into Chelsea’s potential No.7 return date: “How can you tell? If I say I have no idea how can you tell it’s before New Year?

“What I think is not interesting. He plays when he is back. He has a long way to go, if I say now that he is playing Zenit and that he is not playing it does not help .

“I take care of injured players. N’Golo has not been on the pitch since Juventus.”

Trevoh Chalobah

This season has seen a promising development from Chalobah, who made his first forays into the first team and impressed when he was called up.

However, he will now suffer his first setback since winning the shirt, having suffered an injury on Wednesday against Watford.

The 22-year-old is now facing a period of stoppage with a hamstring injury and this was confirmed by his absence against the Hammers.

What Tuchel said: “Mateo Kovacic, N’Golo [Kante], Ben Chilwell and Trevoh Chalobah all out tomorrow. Everyone is available.

Expected return date: N / A.

Mateo kovacic

Kovacic contracted a hamstring problem during a training session in late October and hasn’t been featured since. Tuchel had ruled him out for “a few weeks” when the midfielder was injured for the first time and it is currently unclear when he will be back.

Expected return date: New Year

Ben chilwell

Chilwell found excellent form at the back and even hit the goals. However, he damaged his anterior cruciate ligament in his knee, leaving him facing a long time on the sidelines.

Expected return date: New Year
