Public Joint Stock Gazprom: The membrane unit for extracting helium from natural gas wins the first science and technology prize

The award ceremony for the 2021 edition of the Gazprom Science and Technology Prize took place during the meeting of the Board of Directors of the Company.

The total economic benefit of award-winning solutions and technologies exceeds 102 billion rubles.

“The high level of technological development of the company and the speed of innovation are among the most important competitive advantages of Gazprom. For many years, we have systematically developed our own research-intensive technological solutions. In close collaboration with Russian research and industrial institutes. companies, we have created cutting-edge technologies that are often miles ahead of their foreign counterparts. In some cases, they are not one but two generations ahead. The science and technology business competition is an important part of this work, ”said Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Board of Gazprom.

The first prize was awarded to the article titled “Scientific Justification, Development and Implementation of the Innovative Membrane Unit for the Extraction of Helium from Natural Gases of Eastern Siberia and the Far East Russian ”. The work was presented by Gazprom Proyektirovaniye. Its co-authors are Gazprom, Gazprom Dobycha Irkutsk and Gazprom Dobycha Noyabrsk.

The unit makes it possible to regulate the helium content of the multi-component gas extracted directly at the production site before introducing the gas into the gas pipeline. This reduces the helium content of the gas to the amount that will then be extracted at processing facilities and delivered to consumers.

The first membrane unit in Russia was commissioned on the Chayandinskoye field.

Second place went to Gazprom Transgaz Tomsk for the article entitled “Development of new generation digital radio relay equipment and its implementation on the Power of Siberia main gas line”.

The teams of authors of the following articles were also awarded:

  • “Methodology for maintaining the required reliability of pipelines in compressor stations with the use of robotic diagnostic complexes” by Gazprom Transgaz Yugorsk.

  • “Development and implementation of an innovative well reconditioning method to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and negative environmental impacts” by Severneftegazprom.

  • “Development and implementation of innovative algorithms for processing the results of ultrasonic inspection and diagnostics of pipelines of the unified gas supply system on the basis of performance evaluation models during repairs and operation Gazprom installations “by Gazprom Transgaz Tchaikovsky.

  • “Development and implementation of a set of innovative solutions for the automated control of the electromagnetic suspension of compressor rotors in order to improve the performance of gas compressor units” by Gazprom Transgaz Nizhny Novgorod.

  • “Comprehensive systematic studies of hazardous hydrometeorological, glacial and lithodynamic phenomena on the Sakhalin plateau of the Sea of Okhotsk” by Gazprom VNIIGAZ.

  • “Creation of a digital space for the prequalification procedure” by Gazprom Achats.

  • “Package of sci-tech solutions to increase the energy efficiency of gas heating technology in gas distribution stations” by Gazprom Transgaz Ukhta.

  • “Development of the innovative SAE-110 hybrid autonomous power supply system for low-power remote installations of Gazprom” by Gazprom Nedra.

Gazprom Science and Technology Prize was established in 1998. The prize is an important element of the company’s science and technology policy aimed at promoting innovations in the company’s activities and maintaining its technological leadership within the global energy industry.

In 2021, 16 articles from 23 Gazprom subsidiaries and 15 third-party entities submitted their projects for the Prize. In total, 148 authors were in competition.

The articles were evaluated by a group of experts from Gazprom and its subsidiaries. The evaluation criteria included urgency, novelty, scientific and technological level (research intensity), field of application, scope and economic impact with regard to Gazprom, commercial potential and the protection and use of national materials, technologies and equipment.
